Future Farms 2010
Our 'new' Future Farms project aims to provide diversification support to farmers in the LEADER area of the Peak District through a series of one day training events during the period February-September 2010.
The programme will consist of visits to farm businesses that have successfully diversified, combined with a business start up and development session. It is primarily aimed at farming families, focusing in particular on the next generation of farmers. The days will be informal and enjoyable. Delegates will make new contacts and come away with new skills and new ideas. Some of the visits have been scheduled for weekends and during school holidays, to allow for participation by the younger generation.
Delegates will be able to see, at first hand, practical applications and examples of the following principles:
- Collaborative working- within families and with other farms/businesses
- Innovative and creative use of resources
- Initiatives which add value to the core farming activity
- Use of 'green' technology' and good environmental practice
- Businesses that have accessed support, e.g. grant schemes, mentor support.
The Future Farm events will be run in conjunction with Julie White and Nick Platt of Growing Rural Enterprise.
