Our Health Champions
Lorna Cooper - Bakewell Area
Lorna is a qualified nurse, having worked in health care for many years. She is a keen singer, singing Acapela (unaccompanied) with a friend and together they perform traditional and contemporary folk music at various venues. As a busy working mum, she also loves the outdoors, where she enjoys, walking, running and horse-riding.
Lorna first became involved with The farming Life Centre when applying for a job with us, which in the end she couldn't take. However she stayed in touch and was subsequnetly able to join us as a Health Champion. She is keen to use the skills which she has gained through her life, to give something back to her local community
Carol Lloyd - Flagg, Monyash & Taddington
Carol grew up on a small-holding in Cheshire, where her grandfather was a dairy farmer. She holds a degree in Rural Land Agency and worked for some time at NFU Headquarters in London, and also in e-Commoerce, before returning to Derbyshire.
Carol keeps poultry as a hobby, and is a member of the Buff Orpington Poultry Club, and The Farmers Club, in Whtehall.
As a single mum, Carol now works part-time for Derbyshire Adult Social Services and plans a future career in this sector. She also runs the www.peakdistrictfarming.co.uk website.
It was whilst researching for her website, that Carol first came accross the work of The farming LIfe Centre, and decided to become more involved by taking on the role of Health Champion. She believes that is is important fo offer support to rural people who cannot always find the help which they need from their family and friends.
Marie McIlroy - Alstonefield Area
Marie is from Alstonfield. She works part-time a cycling instructor, teaching road safety to both children and adults . She enjoys cycling for fitness and touring holidays, swimming, hill walking in the Peak District, theatre and cinema.
Marie worked for several years a volunteer first responder for Alstonfield & Wetton First Responders, and also helped to run the local toddler group on Alstonfield.
An interest in all aspects of health and a desire to do voluntary work, led Marie the role of Health Champion. She enjoys encouraging people and helping them to achieve their goals.
Jenny Taylor - Wormhill Area
Jenny is our youngest Health Champion, at just 20 years old. She is studying for a Public Health Nutrition degree at Sheffield Hallam University.
She enjoys living and working within the rural community, taking part in local village event and activities, such as well-dressings. She also helps out during the holidays at Fairfield SureStart Centre in Buxton.
Jenny is passionate about living a healthy, active life, and through her work as a Health Champion volunteer would love to help others work towards achieving their own perosonal goals.
Janice Walton - Tideswell Area
Janice is a farmer's wife, mother and grandmother. She has been farming for 40 years, on the family beef, sheep and dairy farm near Tideswell. Jancie has also worked in the civil service and as a receptionist at the local doctors surgery. She has gained first-hand experience of many of the issues which affect farmers and their families.
In her spare time Janice enjoys visiting tea rooms and spending time with her six grandchildren.
Janice became a Health Champion because she likes meeting and talking to people, especially in the farming community and feels that she can help them through her own experiences.
